Wirltu Yarlu Refresh

A First Nations informed internal refit for the Wirltu Yarlu school on level 1 of the Multi-storey Schulz and Heritage listed Hartley Buildings, for the University of Adelaide.

Constructed over three stages in an occupied 1960s multistorey building, the new refresh project removes old offices and provides additional open plan workstations for twelve staff, a new large meeting room, and a bigger student hub/ kitchen. Project scope also included upgrading non-compliant access routes, requiring a new ramp on the existing heritage listed balcony, as well as creating new openings in the original solid plaster partitions.

First Nations artists have collaborated on the new feature wall panels and acoustic linings in the new spaces, including custom perforated plywood in the meeting room, and printed echopanel and window film graphics in the workstation area. New furniture selections also include First Nations designed fabrics, pendant lighting and custom murals.

Stage 1 & 2 constructed by Mossop and completed in May 2024. Stage 3 by Sarah Constructions.
